Liberal Election Speculation both “Irresponsible” and a Threat to Economic Recovery

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO. Today, Member of Parliament for Halton Lisa Raitt responded to the threat made Tuesday, that Michael Ignatieff and his liberal party were moving to derail the government and call for a fourth general election in the last five years.

“Our government has been working hard and delivering on jobs and investments in our local economy,” said Halton MP Lisa Raitt. “At a time when Canadian families are depending on our government’s leadership on the economy, Michael Ignatieff’s irresponsible actions demonstrate that he is really only in it for himself.”

Yesterday, Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff told Canadians that he will no longer support the Conservative government. At a press conference following his speech, Liberal MP Bob Rae confirmed that at, “the first available opportunity we’ll be moving for a vote of non-confidence.”

“Canadians neither want nor need an election that needlessly jeopardizes our fragile recovery,” continued Raitt. “We are just beginning to see signs of a recovery on the horizon; a recovery that must not be put at risk by Michael Ignatieff’s political opportunism.”

Our Conservative government is continuing to drive the economy forward. The focus right now must be on continuing to deliver Canada’s Economic Action Plan, which is creating and protecting jobs in Halton, and stimulating economic growth across the country.

Michael Ignatieff should be focusing on the needs and priorities of Canadian families rather than on his own self interest.
