A New Years Message from Lisa Raitt

January 1, 2015

I would like to start out by extending my best wishes, hoping that you begin this New Year in a special way with your, family, friends and loved ones.

The New Year provides us with an opportunity to look back on our goals, our challenges and our accomplishments.

This past year was filled with progress. Our Government delivered on significant initiatives that are improving the quality of life for all Canadians.

We’ve created more than a million net new jobs, we’ve enhanced the Universal Child Care Benefit to $1,920 a year, and we’ve increased the amount that can be claimed under the Child Care Expense Deduction. These measures will make life easier for families and improve childcare in Halton.

Yes, the New Year gives us the chance to reflect back, but also the time to focus our efforts on what more we can do, what more we can accomplish as we look forward. This year, more than most, I am feeling a keen sense of renewal.

I look forward to continuing to do my best to serve our communities interests both here at home, and back in Ottawa when the House of Commons returns in a few weeks.

As the finance critic, I am currently in the process of conducting roundtables that will provide input for the Finance Minister as he prepares our next budget, and I look forward to working with our team to push the government to be fiscally responsible as we work to adapt to the new reality of the economic situation.

So, as we return to routine, I would encourage you and your family to take some time to reflect on the past, and more than that, plan for the future.

From my family to yours, I wish you all the best for a prosperous and limitless New Year. Happy 2016!
