Milton to Host Mental Health Awareness Event

May 10, 2016

MILTON, ONTARIO. As part of the 308 Conversations initiative Lisa Raitt announced she will host a community event in coordination with the Mental Health Commission of Canada, focused on promoting mental health awareness in Milton.

“Having these kinds of conversations in our communities all across Canada will go a long way in raising awareness and ending the stigma surrounding mental health,” said Lisa Raitt, Member of Parliament for Milton. “I would invite everyone from all backgrounds to join us for an inspirational evening, to listen, to learn and to lend your support.”

“We have all been affected one way or another by the challenges presented by mental health. We have a responsibility as a community to confront this problem head on.” said Gordon Krantz, Mayor for Milton. “Together we can raise further awareness and show a united front for those who suffer.”

Each year in Canada, nearly 4,000 people die from suicide. In an effort to raise awareness about suicide prevention, mobilize leadership at the national level, and address this pressing public health issue on a pan-Canadian scale, the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) spearheaded the Canada-wide dialogue entitled #308conversations.

The goal of #308conversations is to have MP-sponsored community meetings in each riding across Canada. These meetings are open to the community, bringing together experts ready to answer any questions people may have.

Special guests will include His Worship Mayor Gordon Krantz, National Executive Director of Mood Disorders Society of Canada Phil Upshall, Mental Health Advocate Frank Digulio, Fitness Professional Rob Foster and will feature inspiration speaker and survivor Mark Henick.

We would ask you to encourage the community to attend this important free event:
